Visitor Policy
Effective May 7, 2025: These guidelines apply to St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia, and St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro.
Hospital Visiting Hours
Hospital visiting hours may vary by location, department, or by the type of care a patient is receiving. However, we do strive to maintain normal visiting hours so that patients may take the time to heal with the comfort of their loved ones. General guidelines for hospital visiting hours are listed below, by location.
St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens
7 AM to 8:30 PM
Sacred Heart Hospital, Lavonia
7 AM – 7 PM
Good Samaritan Hospital, Greensboro
7 AM – 7 PM
General Guidelines
- All visitors must check in on entry and receive a visitor’s pass.
- All St. Mary’s Hospital visitors from 7 AM to 8:30 PM must enter through the Main Entrance.
- Please be respectful of the patient’s need for rest and privacy.
- 1 visitor may stay overnight in the patient’s room when capacity permits.
- Visitors are permitted in the Café and all waiting areas.
Surgical Patients & Visitors
- Visitors accompanying surgical patients who arrive between 5 and 7 AM may enter with the patient through the Main Entrance.
- Before 5 AM, surgical patients and visitors should enter through the Emergency Department
- Visitors may accompany a surgical patient at admission and can wait in the surgical services waiting room after the patient is taken for their procedure.
Emergency Services Visitors
- Visitors accompanying Emergency Department patients or arriving outside of normal visiting hours should enter through the Emergency Department.
Rules Regarding Child Visitors in Hospital Settings
- Children must not have any current illnesses or ailments if they are not patients at the facility, and should not have had a fever in the past 24 hours.
- Children must be aged 12 or above to visit. Special exceptions may apply. If you have specific questions, please contact your care team.
- The hospital care team may, at any time, determine that children cannot visit, depending on the individual patient’s situation.
- Family Birth Center and Mother/Baby Unit siblings (of any age) may visit during regular visiting hours.
- For patient safety, no children may visit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Center for Rehabilitative Medicine - Athens
- Located on the 5th floor of St. Mary’s Hospital
- Visiting hours are:
- Monday-Friday: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Saturday: 12:30 PM – 7:00 PM
- Sunday: 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- If a visitor is disruptive to patient care or disruptive to the roommate, they will be asked to leave the premises.
Visitor Education and Infection Control
- Visitors are asked to be healthy with no symptoms of illness.
- Follow respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette (e.g., covering mouth and nose with a disposable tissue when coughing or sneezing) in the event the individual develops respiratory symptoms while visiting the facility.
- Visitors will be provided with personal protective equipment when visiting a patient on isolation precautions.

St. Mary’s Gift Shop
St. Mary’s Gift Shop sells gifts for patients and loved ones, including flowers, balloons, cards, clothing, handbags, jewelry, toiletries, snacks, and drinks. Flowers can be delivered within the hospital at no extra charge. The shop is located on the 1st Floor beside the Atrium Lobby and is open Monday-Friday 9:30-5. Every other Saturday, 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. We are closed on Sundays and holidays. Summer hours may vary. We accept phone orders and all major credit cards. Call (706) 389-2548 to place your order.
To protect patient safety, flowers cannot be delivered to critical care units (ICU, NCCU, and NICU).
